Navigation A — Coastal — question 3

  1. During a strong northerly storm you are with your vessel about 1 mile north of Hadera harbour, and you have been given permission to enter the harbour for shelter. Your vessel's draught is 5 metres. Draw on the chart how you will enter, up to the harbour entrance (draw freehand; straight courses are not needed). Enter by the marked channel according to the IALA-A rules; the draught limit means you must use the western channel.
  2. Why does the value of the variation differ across the chart? Because the angle relative to magnetic north changes.
  3. What is the reference level for the depths on the chart? The level of the lowest low water.
  4. At what range will the Herzliya light rise above the horizon, in daylight and good visibility, for an observer whose height of eye is 4 metres above the water? 12.3 miles.

The question is solved on chart 1000. On the site it comes with the relevant sections of the chart.
