Navigation A — Coastal — question 52

At 08:00 your vessel is due south of the YONATHAN ISLAND lighthouse, and the range of the lighthouse at that time was 4 miles. Her speed is 7 knots and she is under sail only. She must reach the buoy at 32°53.2'N 034°50.5'E. The wind is a headwind and causes 6° of leeway. The vessel can sail within 40° of the wind on either tack. The passage is to be made in two legs (tacks) only, by the shortest route. Find:

  1. The two true courses (TC). 140°, 060°
  2. The two courses over the ground (COG). 146°, 054°
  3. The estimated time of arrival at the buoy (ETA). 15:20
  4. The position at which the vessel will tack onto the second leg. 32°38.3'N 034°26.4'E

The question is solved on chart 1000. On the site it comes with the relevant sections of the chart.
